Nationwide polls and denominational reports are showing that the next generation is calling it quits on the traditional church. And it?s not just happening on the nominal fringe; it?s happening at the core of the Faith.
What are the factors that could cause the next generation to be lost from the local church? Ken Ham from Answers in Genesis commissioned Britt Beemer from America?s Research Group to find out. In the first scientific study of its kind, Beemer surveyed a thousand 20-30 year olds who used to go to Evangelical churches on a regular basis but have since left it behind. The results are not just surprising; they are shocking:
Those who faithfully attended Sunday school are more likely to leave the church than those who do not.
Those who regularly attended Sunday school are more likely to believe that the Bible is less true.
Over half of those who faithfully attended church feel that church is not relevant to real life today.
Statistics reveal a huge disconnect taking place between our children and their church experience. The trends are frightening, but Already Gone shows how to fight back for our families, our churches and our world. We can make a difference today that will affect the statistics of tomorrow!

Christian Parents and Educators, please read this book Feb 27, 2010
Already Gone, by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer with Todd Hillard
The title "Already Gone" refers to the children and teens that are attending church regularly with their parents today but have already left the church in their hearts and minds.
The authors of this book have done extensive research and give statistics and reasons for the phenomenal exodus of young adults from the church.
The disconnection happens when students begin to question the full accuracy of the Bible and doubt that the Bible is the true and inspired Word of God.
Ken Ham, the president/CEO and founder of Answers in Genesis ministry, points out that Christians have not been educated in how to defend their faith and have changed what they believe about the bible to match what secular science has taught - that the earth is millions of years old and that evolution happened.
Many Christians see no problem with going along with these scientific theories and accept that God could have used evolution, and that 6 days of creation may not be 6 literal 24-hour days. Once we question one aspect of the Bible, Ham writes, the rest of it becomes questionable as well.
The solution Ham suggests is for church leaders and parents to educate themselves in creation apologetics (logical arguments in support of creation) so they are able to answer children's questions when what they are learning in school contradicts the Bible.
"Most church-going adults cannot adequately defend the basics of their Christian faith or basic doctrines, let alone defend the faith against the skeptical questions of this scientific age," writes Ham.
Ham is calling for a second reformation of the Church and believes that if we don't take action now, Christianity in America will become extinct.
"We are one generation away from the evaporation of church as we know it," states Ham, pointing out that this has already happened in England as well as the rest of Europe.
"Where Europe is today spiritually, America will be tomorrow - and for the same reasons, if the Church does not recognize where the foundational problem lies and address it," states Ham.
This book contains serious warnings for every American interested in helping to preserve our country as a Christian nation. Already Gone needs to find its way into the hands of every Christian Educator, Church Leader, and Christian parent.
An Indispensable Book for anyone wanting to make a difference Feb 23, 2010
If you've noticed the massive amount of teen and college-age people who attended church growing up, but have left, you probably are wondering "why?" This book will give you the answers you need to put things back on track. A wonderfully detailed survey shows what the causes of the problem are - and when you know the cause of a problem, you're halfway to a solution.
I would earnestly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make a difference for Christ in the lives of others. A copy should be sent to every church in America.
All Christians need to read this book! Jan 10, 2010
This is the best book that I have seen explaining the difficulty facing the Church today. We are losing our young people, and our success in the eyes of God depends upon retaining them.
The Old Testament concludes with the following words:
Malachi 4:4 "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. 5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."
The church today needs to do the work of Elijah: turning the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers. This not about declaring some man, church or ministry to be "Elijah"--it is about doing that work. Jesus said that John the Baptist did the work of Elijah at that time (Matt 11:14), but when people asked John if he was Elijah, he said, "No" (John 1:21). John was not intrested in declaring a title for himself, he simply did the work that God have him to do. We need to really turn the hearts of children to fathers and vice versa, not to make claims for ourselves.
1Tim 1:3-4 shows that a good church overseer must manage his how family well. Should not a good church manage its family well--retain its young people? Many of our churches are not doing that. Adults are much more intersted in taking care of themselves than they are their young people.
Matthew 19:18 "Which ones?" [commandments] the man inquired. Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19honor your father and mother,'[a] and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'[b]" 20"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?" 21Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"
Many people in the church are living "good" lives, keeping these commandments of Jesus. But we are too intrested in our houses, cars, vacations and other luxuries. We are not willing to give up what he have to keep our children in Christian enviornments. Our jobs are more important than moving to a place where our children will have Christian friends or spend the money to place them in Christian schools or Christian communities. It is more important to us to send them to an evolution-teaching hich school or college where we think they can get the best education and best job, but where most will make secular friends and be absorbed into that culture.
The young people see our hypocrisy and would tell us about it if we ask, but we do not. Is God going to smite the earth with a curse if we do not bring our Christian generations together?

Christians Take Heed Jan 9, 2010
Ken Ham believes, and I am convinced, that a revival movement in creationism is needed desperately, and when it occurs, it will be as big an event as the Reformation was back in Martin Luther's day. He points out a very valid reason why young people today are not attending church and Christians are backsliding.
We have too many so-called Christians disregarding the Biblical Word and allowing false science to be taught in our schools and tolerating things that contradict the Bible. The Bible is a history book and as such offers much to science to help explain the earth's beginnings and all that has occurred since. Our children are being taught (and we allow it) that science is right and the Bible is incorrect. Most people today do not blink when they hear a shark tooth is 250,000 years old.
If Christians disregard and tolerate these things, they are calling the Bible a lie. Christians today tend to segregate science and spiritual matters. They try to hold onto their Biblical "spiritual" beliefs but backslide when confronted with scientific theory that is contrary to the Bible. In reality, if we let others contradict the Bible for historical fact, we are calling the Bible a lie. You cannot agree with one and not the other.
What can you do? Do not allow yourself or your children to get caught up in these lies. Stand and fight for Biblical truth.
Examples of contention with truth exposed:
1. The earth was created in 6 days and in proper order.
2. The origin of man was not by evolution but by God.
3. Earth's age is no more than 10 thousand years.
4. No death occurred until man sinned.
5. Until death by sin, all animals were vegetarians.
6. Dinosaurs existed and were on Noah's ark.
7. The existence of the great flood is real.
8. The terms "millions of years", the gap theory and the big bang are scientific hypotheses, not proven.
9. God said homosexuality is an abominable sin.
10. The Bible says life begins at conception.
Family life is in decay and we allow and take part in it in a big way. The government should not be followed if contrary to Biblical scripture. This includes telling Christians how to raise their children, indoctrinating untruths to our children in public schools, tolerating government determination of when life begins, honoring gay and lesbian pride month and the more recent "hate crimes legislation" which has already led to stifled Christian speech. Our own president says "we are no longer a Christian nation. It is okay to fight issues and provide a voice for sound government, but the real fight is for your faith and those of your children.
What do you think happens to Biblical credibility if we allow our children or ourselves to believe and follow these untruths? We begin to disbelieve the entire Bible but in reality it is the revealed truth of God by divine inspiration. By the way, surveys show that children who went to Sunday school are more likely to doubt the Bible than those who didn't. Reading and referring to scripture as "Bible stories" is akin to telling our children fairytales.
As Christians, we need to come to grips with the core of our Christianity and really live it to the hilt. There are many that claim to be Christians and yet they do not really believe the Bible. This includes many so-called Christian churches and even the pope. He says the church and evolution can work side-by-side. Every time you walk into a museum and see a sign explaining that a rock is a million years old you are a witness to false belief.
There needs to be a real awakening through revival to restore credibility. We water down our worship with entertainment rather than drawing people by the Gospel. We cannot control so much what is taught in public schools of a free society, but we must find a way to have truth taught to our children. We must begin in our own homes and at our Sunday schools because most of us are guilty. We cannot afford to leave our children in schools where they are gradually indoctrinated to world beliefs. As a basic right, vouchers should be provided to families to send children to schools of their choice. The federal government subsidizes each state for each child to attend school and it should allow for all beliefs as long as a standardized and basic curriculum is covered.
Christians need to speak out to provide edification to those influenced by schools, museums, the government and all those who publicly proclaim false beliefs. Christian persecution is already happening in government, schools, jobs and courts (justice) but this is just the tip of the ice berg.
De 4:2 - You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
De 12:32 - Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it
Pr 30:6 - Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
Gal 1:8 - But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
Let us pray for our nation and the world for the direction it is heading. Examine yourselves. Let us all begin in our own service to the Lord and have our faith spring outward to encompass all around us and have all come to repentance. That is the Lord's will.
2 Chr 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Great Insights Jan 7, 2010
This book gives great insights into why, when, and how we are losing so many Christian children to the world. It should be a must read for anyone doing Sunday school teaching. It should be used and understood by all Christian parents, so that the real issues are addressed early enough to make a difference.
